Training

Samsara

Without an understanding of what safe driving looks like, it can’t become a habit.

Samsara provided in-cab alerts and post-incident coaching to help correct driver behavior, but didn’t offer proactive training to show what proper driving looks like.

A holistic training program

We envisioned a learning management and course creation system that would allow our customers to train their workforce to drive more safely. Along with our coaching tools and performance dashboards, managers could upskill their team from a single platform. Training could also be assigned more proactively and be more personalized based on a driver’s behavior.

Training as a differentiator

A training product would give Samsara an advantage in the market because our competitors did not offer an integrated training tools. Customers often had to use 3rd party products in a different platform to create and assign courses. Training would also be offered as a new software-only license, providing additional revenue streams.

Training ecosystem

Course

I identified needed content components to create a course – images, videos, text, carousels, and quizzes. Creators would be encouraged to create bite-sized courses so content was easy to digest and matched driver’s on the go workdays.

Course assignment

The course library would show off the breadth of available courses. I designed a new assignment component that would be reused across other products. This assignment component used a hierarchical navigation scheme to allow users to choose different entity types and navigate through their user groups, called tags in Samsara.

Analytics dashboard

I designed a dashboard so managers could track their learner’s progress, course completion, and who was past due. This used our standard reporting format and data visualizations so we could build the product out faster.
