Automations
Samsara
Customers were spending a lot of time manually assigning and updating task statuses.
It was difficult for customers to match organizational processes to steps that needed to be taken in Samsara. This led to missed steps and inconsistent process enforcement.
A more efficient workflow
We envisioned an advanced automation tool that would allow large enterprise customers to build their workflows in to Samsara. This would decrease time spent manually reviewing and completing tasks and task statuses. We wanted to support a broad range of use cases and allow other product teams to build on top of our system.
Automation as a differentiator
A more robust automation tool than our competitors would make Samsara stand out in the operations marketplace. Automations would also enhance Samsara’s new premium license tier, increasing revenue, and strengthening product stickiness.
Building an Automation
Multi-branching workflows
Administrators wanted to assign their workers tasks based on specific conditions. For example, a driver may be assigned coaching with a manager or sent to driver self-review based on the driver’s safety performance score or a maintenance ticket may be assigned to a particular group or worker based on it’s priority. I designed a system that allowed for multi-branching conditions to allow for a broad range of scenarios to be automated.
A flexible card system
I designed a scalable card system to allow customers to build any combination of triggers, conditions, actions, and waits. This allowed the system to scale across a wide range of use cases. Users can drag and drop to move cards around the workflow.
